scintillant in the gloomy skyline
yet bright like the eyes of an invalid.
snuff it out like a cigarette it must
for it foretells the fall of equanimity
the balance we can't afford to tip.
i stand in the crowds and watch people pass
see how they chase life always two steps ahead?
if only they fell and knocked it over.
so dear, you're not that far from me
when the city lights draw near so you will
though i could turn you off like a light.
